Caroline van der Leeuw volgde het Amsterdamse conservatorium. Als Caro zingt ze een demo in van Back It Up. En hoewel het nooit haar eigen single had moeten zijn, werd het nummer uitgebracht bij Grandmono Records. In 2009 is Back It Up haar eerste hit en komt ze in de Top 40 op nummer 12.

Dat debuut wordt in 2010 ruimschoots overtroffen door A Night Like This. Het nummer wordt uitgekozen voor de reclamecampagne van Martini. Het nummer staat drie weken op nummer 2. In 2010 verschijnt haar eerste album Deleted Scenes From The Cutting Room Floor. In een jaar tijd gaat het album 200.000 keer over de toonbank. Ook buiten Nederland wordt het album meervoudig platina. Stuck wordt in 2010 haar tweede notering in de top 10. Ook ontvangt ze een Edison voor beste zangeres en krijgt ze de Popprijs 2010.

In mei 2013 verschijnt het tweede album, The Shocking Miss Emerald, en dat jaar wordt Tangled Up haar zesde Top 40-hit.

Nadat ze in 2014 bevalt van een dochter keert ze in 2015 terug met een nieuw album. Daarvan is Quicksand de eerste single.

Caro omschrijft haar eigen geluid als jazzy pop.
