Carly Rae Jepsen neemt in 2007 deel aan het vijfde seizoen van de Canadese Idols. Daar eindigt ze als derde. In eigen beheer maakt ze een jaar later haar debuutalbum Tug Of War.

Op haar tweede album Kiss, dat in 2012 verschijnt, staat de single Call Me Maybe. Die single wordt haar eerste hit in ons land en bereikt de tweede plaats. Ook haar samenwerking met Owl City op Good Time wordt een top 10-hit. This Kiss en Tonight I’m Getting Over You worden nog kleine hits in de Top 40 en begin april 2013 staat de Canadese voor het laatst in de lijst.

Na een afwezigheid van bijna twee jaar staat ze in maart 2015 weer in de Top 40 met I Really Like You. De track is de voorloper van haar derde studioalbum. In de bijbehorende videoclip zijn Tom Hanks en Justin Bieber te zien.
