Als Brandy (Norwood) twee jaar is zingt ze al de sterren van de hemel in het plaatselijke gospelkoor waar haar vader de scepter zwaait. Nadat haar familie van McComb naar Los Angeles verhuist volgt ze een studie op de Hollywood High Performing Arts Center. Brandy gaat niet veel later aan het werk als achtergrondzangeres bij de boyband Immature. Met producer Keith Crouch, die werkte voor de groep Somethin’ For The People, maakt ze haar debuutalbum Brandy dat in 1994 verschijnt. Wereldwijd werden er van dat album zes miljoen stuks verkocht en in de Verenigde Staten kwamen er drie top 10-hits.

Nederland leert Brandy pas kennen als The Boy Is Mine, van haar tweede album Never Say Never, de Top 40 voor drie weken weet aan te voeren in 1998. Een jaar later staat ook Have You Ever in de Top 40.

In 2001 keert Brandy terug in de lijst met een remake van de Phil Collins-hit Another Day In Paradise. Haar versie met haar broer Ray J staat drie weken op nummer 4. Met hem maakt ze in 2010 ook de realiti-serie Brandy And Ray JL A Family Business Van haar derde album Full Moon weet later ook What About Us de lijst te bereiken.

Na een pauze verschijnt in 2004 haar vierde studioalbum Afrodiciac. De track Talk About Love, waarop ook Kanye West te horen is, wordt een bescheiden vijfde Top 40-hit voor de zangeres. Two Eleven is in 2012 haar zesde en vooralsnog laatste studioalbum. In 2015 maakt ze haar debuut op Broadway waar ze in de musical Chicago de hoofdrol van Roxie Hart voor haar rekening neemt.

In 2018 staat Brandy weer volop in de schijnwerpers met I Could Be Wrong, de track van Lucas & Steve die door Radio 538 wordt uitgeroepen tot Dance Smash.
