Bonnie Tyler (echte naam: Gaynor Hopkins) werd geboren in Skewen in Wales en komt uit een gezin van zes kinderen.

In 1975 neemt ze haar eerste liedje op maar dat wordt geen succes. Haar eerste hit in Nederland is Lost In France, dat in 1977 tot de 24e plaats komt. De opvolger van dat nummer, It's A Heartache, haalt in 1978 de derde plaats en zou haar grootste hit worden. Het eveneens zeer bekende Total Eclipse Of The Heart komt in 1983 niet hoger dan 24. In 1984 en 1995 heeft ze nog een vierde en een vijfde hit in Nederland (A Rockin' Good Way, samen met Shakin' Stevens en Making Love (Out Of Nothing At All).

In 2013 vertegenwoordigt Tyler Groot-Brittannië op het Eurovisiesongfestival. Met 23 punten voor Believe In Me eindigt ze in Malmö op de 19e plaats.
