Boney M. was een succesvolle discogroep uit de jaren 70. Producer Frank Farian richtte de groep op. De naam van de groep is afkomstig van de Australische detectiveserie Boney, waar oprichter Farian een groot fan van was. De bezetting van de groep wisselde meerdere malen, de twee bekendste leden van de groep zijn Liz Mitchell en Bobby Farrell.

De groep scoorde vele hits, zoals Sunny, Ma Baker, Rivers Of Babylon en Hooray! Hooray! It's A Holi-Holiday.

Naast al dat succes was er ook aardig wat kritiek op Frank Farian. De mannen in de groep hadden bijna geen vocale inbreng bij de muziek van de groep. Frank Farian zong namelijk bijna alle mannelijke partijen zelf in. Alleen tijdens concerten zong Bobby wel zelf de nummers. Maar ook bij de dames werd er gerommeld met de zang. Zo werd er tijdens concerten de microfoon uitgezet van één van de dames en werd dit opgevangen door een koor van drie zangeressen.

In 1986 werd het einde van de groep aangekondigd, maar de groep is sindsdien altijd op de een of andere manier doorgegaan. In al die jaren zijn er vele best of compilaties en remixalbums uitgebracht.

In maart 2021 geeft Majestic de single Rasputin uit 1978 een opfrisbeurt anno 2021.
