De Amerikaanse zanger, producer en songwriter William Lance Swan brak door in zijn thuisland in 1962 door met de single Lover Please.

De singles die volgden waren minder succesvol en hij ging zich meer toeleggen op het produceren. Zo produceerde hij onder andere drie albums van Tony Joe White. Nadat hij anderhalf jaar als basgitarist had meegespeeld tijdens diverse optredens van zijn vriend Kris Kristofferson, ging hij weer de studio in om zelf liedjes op te nemen.

Zijn album en gelijknamige hit I Can Help werden wereldwijd een succes. Van zijn tweede album Rock 'n' Roll Moon werd de single Everything's The Same (Ain't Nothing Changed) een hit, maar wist niet het succes van I Can Help te evenaren. In de jaren 80 nam Swan nog verschillende albums op, met diverse bands, maar hij wist niet meer het succes te behalen van zijn eerste album.

In 1999 werd Swan opgenomen in de Rockabilly Hall of Fame.
