Michael Joseph Nelson groeit op als zangertje in het kerkkoor van de Liverpool Cathedral en met dat koor zingt hij op verschillende plekken in Europa. Als hij besluit om solo muziek te gaan maken werkt hij samen met Stephen Kozmeniuk die voor onder meer The Game, Madonna, Dua Lipa en Hailee Steinfeld werkt. In 2015 verschijnt zijn eerste single Ghosts onder het pseudoniem Raines. Shine A Light, dat later dat jaar verschijnt, brengt hij als Banners uit en die track weet het later ook tot FIFA 16 te schoppen.
Aan het begin van 2016 verschijnt zijn titelloze EP. Someone To You komt eind 2017 op de tweede EP Empires On Fire terecht. Jaren later duikt die track opnieuw op via TikTok als het ook te horen is in een commercial van een telecomprovider.
In mei 2020 verschijnt zijn derde EP genaamd, Always Yours. Met de track If I Didn’t Have You laat hij in maart 2021 weer van zich horen.
