De Amerikaanse Anastacia Lyn Newkirk doet in 1998 mee aan het MTV-programma The Cut. De zangeres bereikt de finale en krijgt een platencontract bij Sony. Al snel maakt ze haar debuutalbum, Not That Kind, waarvan I’m Outta Love de eerste single is. Het levert haar in de zomer van 2000 haar Top 40-debuut op. Die single is, nog steeds, haar grootste succes in de Nederlandse hitlijst.

In 2002 maakt ze met Boom! het officiële themalied voor het WK voetbal. Een speciale editie van haar tweede album, Freak Of Nature, draagt ze op aan de dan net overleden Lisa ‘Left Eye’ Lopes die omkomt bij een auto-ongeluk. Een jaar later wordt bij Anastacia borstkanker ontdekt en besluit de zangeres het even rustig aan te doen.

In 2004 keert ze terug en wordt de single Left Outside Alone haar achtste hit in de Top 40. In 2012 verschijnt haar vijfde studioalbum, It’s A Man’s World, een album met covers van eerdere rockhits. Nederland loopt er niet echt warm voor, want haar laatste hit stamt uit 2008 als I Can Feel You slechts kortstondig in de Top 40 staat.

In 2014 verschijnt er weer nieuw werk van de zangeres met de single Stupid Little Things.
