Alan Walker verhuisde al op zijn tweede naar Noorwegen en is sinds zijn vijftiende actief als dj. Zo staat hij als DJ Walkzz te draaien en maakt hij remixen. In 2014 verschijnt zijn track Fade, waarna hij een platencontract tekent bij Sony.

In december van 2015 verschijnt Faded, waarop de vocalen van de Noorse Iselin Solheim te horen zijn. Zijn Top 40-debuut staat zeven weken op de tweede plaats in de Top 40. Voor de opvolger, Sing Me To Sleep, werkt hij opnieuw samen met Solheim. Op Alone, dat in december 2016 verschijnt, is Noonie Bao te horen die je kent als schrijver en stem van I Could Be The One van Avicii.

In 2017 verschijnt een remake van één van zijn oudere tracks, Spectre uit 2015, opnieuw. Het nummer wordt voor de nieuwe versie, The Spectre, voorzien van de vocalen van Jesper Borgen. Eind oktober brengt Walker met All Falls Down een nieuwe track uit waarop ook Noah Cyrus en Digital Farm Animals te horen zijn.

In de zomer van 2018 levert hij met Au/Ra en Tomine Harket de track Darkside af waarmee hij in november zijn tweede top 10-hit scoort. Op dat moment is zijn volgende single, Diamond Heart, al verschenen dat in maart 2019 zijn derde top 10-hit wordt. Op dat moment brengt hij met On My Way al weer zijn volgende single uit waarmee hij drie weken op nummer 9 staat. In juli brengt hij met A$AP Rocky de track Live Fast uit. Op de valreep van 2019 verschijnt Alone Pt II, een track die hij maakt met Ava Max.
