Allen LaMar "Al" Wilson was een Amerikaanse soulzanger, die in 1939 ter wereld kwam in Meridian in de staat Mississippi. Zijn muzikale carrière begint al op vroege leeftijd in een kerkkoor. Als hij in 1966 onder zijn hoede wordt genomen door manager Marc Gordon gaat het hard en scoort hij in in Amerika en Engeland zijn eerste hits.
Wilsons grootste succes dateert uit 1973: Show And Tell wordt in Amerika een nummer 1-hit, en ook de La La Peace Song uit 1974 doet het goed in eigen land. In Nederland sneuvelt de single in de Tipparade. Wilson moet bovendien zijn notering delen met O.C. Smith, die ook een versie heeft opgenomen.
Wilson overleed in april 2008 aan nierfalen, hij was 68 jaar. Hij ligt begraven op de Evergreen-begraafplaats in Riverside, Californië.
