Australische hardrockgroep opgericht in 1974 in Sydney, Australië door de uit Schotland geëmigreerde broers Angus en Malcolm Young (beiden gitaar), hun vaderlandgenoot Bon Scott, a.k.a. Ronald Belford Scott (zang) en de Australiërs Mark Evans (basgitaar) en Phil Rudd (drums; ex-Buster Brown).

Evans wordt vervangen door de Engelse immigrant Cliff Williams in 1977. Bon Scott komt op 19-02-1980 op 33-jarige leeftijd te overlijden aan overmatig alcoholgebruik.

De groep besluit verder te gaan met de Engelsman Brian Johnson. Phil Rudd laat zich vervangen door de Brit Simon Wright in 1983. Wright maakt de overstap naar Dio in 1989. Chris Slade (ex-Manfred Mann’s Earth Band, ex-The Firm) vervangt hem. Angus en Malcolm zijn de jongere broers van George Young van The Easybeats en later Flash & The Pan.

Op 13 november 2020 verschijnt Power Up, het 17e studioalbum van de band en het eerste in zes jaar tijd. Shot In The Dark is de eerste single van dat album.
