Om het nummer heen hing een mysterie wie "Vieze Diana" was. Speculaties gingen uit dat het Jacksons mentor Diana Ross zou zijn, op wie hij vroeger verliefd was, of een groupie. Producer Quincy Jones bevestigde later dat het om een groupie ging.
